Before giving this to my granddaughter , of course I had to read it. I am embarrassed to say that I actually kept following the directions...shaking, pressing, tilting the book and looking at the next page to see the results. I finally realized what I was doing...I think it is very clever and fun ...even for grands

Press Here Herve Tullet Books Reviews

This is such a cute, interactive book! I bought it for my niece, but honestly the adults that read it to her enjoyed it just as much. It is a longer book, and she doesn't usually make it through all the pages, but she loves tapping the dots and tilting the book in the first half. I wouldn't recommend the book for children less than 2 because 1) its a bit longer book (so, longer than the 10 pages that my niece can normally sit through) and 2) the pages aren't thicker paper or cardboard, and in my experience little ones like to turn the pages and might have more difficulty with this book. Otherwise, its a really creative book unlike what I've seen before and I love how kids get to be interactive with the content. Looking at getting more books from this author in the future!
My daughter loves having books read to her and I was really excited to get an interactive book for her. However, she wasn't very patient or wanting to participate in the page instructions. I liked it though and thought it was a fun book.

Unfortunately my copy had some sticky stuff in between a couple of pages. And the cover of the book was slightly bent at the corner.
This is a gift for my 5 year old daughter for Christmas. She has borrowed this book 100 times from the school library so we just had to get her her own copy. It's a fun interactive book that she never tires from reading. Also ordered the other title "Mix It Up" by the same author and it looks just as awesome (she hasn't read it yet - but I know she'll love it!) I recommend having both in your children's library.
One of those books that we've grown to love more the more we read it. The first time we read it, I was thinking "hmmm...this is a little weird" but then I read it with my 3 year old and he LOVED interacting with the book. I totally see where you were going with this, Herve Tullet! I guess I was too old to see it )
Bought this book for our first son, who loved it. Now our second son is enjoying it just as much (and they have very different personalities). The interactive element is great for younger kids who have trouble paying attention to a book. And there are things for older kids too. Recently, our older son noticed that where the different dots overlap, they form secondary colors (red and yellow make orange, etc.). The book itself is sturdy and the pages are fairly thick to stand up to some abuse. Definitely recommend!
We love this book! It's so simple yet engaging and fun. I first got this book when my daughter was just shy of 2 years old. She was verbal, but she didn't take to this book at that time. I put it away deflated, thinking it just wasn't for her, but a couple months later, I pulled it out again and what fun! At 2.5 years old, she interacts with the book, rubbing and tapping on the circles to make it change colors or make more circles. Now she has memorized what to do in each page and I love watching her interact with every single page. It's fun for her and fun for me to watch her interact.
One thing's for sure - after purchasing this book for our grandson (which I understand has not spent a day just sitting on the bookshelf!) - I'll be purchasing more books by this innovative and multi-talented author, Herve Tullet. I'd read an interview with him that discussed what he tries to achieve when writing a children's book - "the idea that adults and children should collaborate with the book together, the element of surprise, the connection between abstract and concrete concepts..." In this neat book, he achieves what he sets out to do... it allows your child to feel like a magician, assisted by nothing more than yellow, red and blue dots!

Beginning with a simple yellow dot your child presses (which "magically" - via your child pressing it - responds by turning into two yellow dots on the second page), the amount of dots, colors, patterns and sizes of the dots change as the book progresses, with a child learning the meaning of pressing, turning, rubbing, tapping, shaking, tilting, blowing, along with varying degrees of movement (gently, a little bit, a little bit more, hard, a little bit harder, really hard) - and direction (left, right, up, down). Love the fact that the cover is SO thick - allows for all of that manhandling!

Throughout, your child is cheered on with words like "Great! Perfect! Well done! Fabulous! Excellent!" as his/her actions appear to create the "magic" happening on each page. Toward the end, your child will be clapping to make the dots larger and larger and LARGER until finally that original one yellow dot (with a white hole in the center) is taking up the entire two page spread... at which point your child's encouraged to "Quick, press the white dot", with the final page showing the original yellow dot and saying, "Bravo! Want to do it all over again? Back to the beginning. This way..." with an arrow. This is really an energizing, just PERFECT little book for engaging your child in a fun way, especially if you let your own self be a kid again and "oooh" & "aaah" at the magic (but with all of the clapping at the end, 56 pages long and the encouragement to do it all over again, more suited for daytime rather than a bedtime read!)

I really like the clean look of this book - its brilliance is in its simplicity... stretching a child's imagination while teaching concepts of movement in such a magical way. Reminded me of an amazing college-aged aunt we had who never stopped being a kid herself, whom we would swarm around as she would make the simplest activities seem magical - thought of her as I read it, wondering if perhaps Mr. Tullet knew my Aunt Mary? ;-) Herve Tullet does a terrific job, and I found it well worth the imprinted $15.99 price.
